Ivan Kruljac MD PhD

Dr. Kruljac graduated  from the University of Zagreb Medical School with an excellent grade, and received his PhD from the same faculty in 2016 with an epidemiological study of clinical significance of ketosis in patients with type 2 diabetes. He gained extensive clinical experience at the Department of Endocrinology as the head of the tumor board for neuroendocrine tumors, where he dealt with the most complex cases in the field of endocrinological oncology. These patients were referred from other general and university hospitals from Croatia and abroad. His scientific work is especially significant, as he established himself as the most active endocrinologist in Croatia by writing more than 50 papers, some of which are published in most prestigious jounals such as The New England Journal of Medicine. He was the executive editor and co-founder of the scientific journal Endocrine Oncology and Metabolism, which was included in the ICMJE and COPE, as well as in the international bibliographic databases DOAJ, EMBASE and SCOPUS during his tenure. Since 2019, he has been the secretary of the Croatian Endocrinological Society and the Croatian representative in the European Endocrinological Society. He is a research associate at the University of Zagreb Medical School. He is a co-founder and director of the Solmed Clinic, where he is also the head of the Center of Endocrinology. Currently, he is a principal investigator in three cinical trials, and subinvestigator in seven. He is also the head of the scientific unit of the Solmed Group in charge of biostatistics and medical writing.

Davor Kust, MD PhD

Dr. Kust graduated from the University of Zagreb School of Medicine, where he also received his PhD in 2016 with a thesis "Prognostic significance of cytokeratin-20 gene expression in peripheral blood cells of patients with colroectal cancer". In 2018, he became the first University master of oncology and radiotherapy in Croatia, defending a thesis entitled "Hypothyroidism as a predictive factor of a better treatment response to sunitinib therapy". From 2015 to 2019, he was a delegate in the assembly of the Croatian Medical Chamber, and the president of the Committee for Young Doctors. He is currently the vice president of the committee. He is a co-owner and one of the founders of the Solmed Clinic, the leading private institution for conducting clinical trials in Croatia. During his work so far, he published 46 scientific and Professional articles, wrote 12 chapters in medical books and textbooks, and had 25 conferenc abstracts. He is a regular speeker at domestic and foreign oncology conferences, and his narrower areas of interest are tumors of digestive system, head & neck tumors and neuroendocrine tumors. He is also the founder of the largest private oncology network Onkologija.net.

After graduating from the Medical High School in Osijek, he studied at "Zdravstveno Veleučilište" in Zagreb. During his studies, as an active athlete, he showed great interest in maintaining health with proper nutrition. He was particulary interested into the impact of different types of nutrition on human health. His reasearch resulted in the publication of an article in the Croatian Journal of Public Health entitled "The Influence of a Ketogenic Diet on the Treatment of Various Diseases". After graduating, he was employed at the university hospital Sestre Milosrdnice in Zagreb, where during his six years of work at the emergency department he gained extensive knowledge in the approach to medical emergencies, as well as experience in a multidisciplinary approach to working with patients. He is currently the main study coordinator and technician, actively involved in everyday work and supervision of eight clinical trials.

He was born in Sisak, where he finished medical high school. After graduating from the University of Applied Health Sciences in Zagreb, he did an internship at the Clinic for Infectious Diseases "Fran Mihaljević". After that, he gained work experience in primary health care and then built experience in the Clinical Hospital Center "Sestre milosrdnice". He confirms his interest in nursing by writing papers, conducting research, and going to educational courses and congresses. In addition to his primary job, Ivan's life is characterized by many years of volunteering in various organizations. In 2020, he completed his graduate studies in nursing at the Faculty of Medicine in Zagreb.

Martina graduated from the Faculty of Science (Department of Geography) in 2010 and since then she has worked as a teacher of geography in primary and secondary schools and at the National Center for External Evaluation of Education. After ten years of working in education, she decided to try something completely new and join the study team of the Solmed Polyclinic as a Clinical Research Coordinator. Martina is in charge of coordinating the work of other members of the clinical trial team (medical technicians and doctors), maintaining contacts with patients and clients. Collects and archives study documentation, enters data into international databases and prepares the entire work schedule of the Polyclinic. She is fluent in English and German, deals with art and design, and leads the marketing activities of the Polyclinic.

Romana Dmitrovic completed Medical School at the University of Zagreb. Since 2001 she has been a specialist in gynecology and obstetrics. In 2001 she became Master of Medical Science (MSc) at the postgraduate study on Ultrasound in obstetrics and gynecology at the Medical University of Zagreb. In 2008 she defended her doctoral thesis entitled “Endometrial thickness following embryo implantation” at the Faculty of Medicine, the University of Ljubljana. She is an infertility specialist. She studied and was educated at the world’s top clinics with which she still maintains contact. In 2000 she visited Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Northwestern University in Chicago, USA (supervisors: Prof. Dr. John Sciarra and prof. Dr. Louis Keith, the world’s leading experts in the field of infertility, endometriosis, laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery, and multiple pregnancy). Since 2003 she had been spending several weeks to several months a year at a hospital in Maribor, at the Department of Reproductive Gynecology (supervisor: Prof. dr. Veljko Vlaisavljevic) and in 2004/2005, during Fulbriht’s scholarship, she spent a year at the Penn State University, Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Department of Reproductive Endocrinology in the USA (Mentor: Professor Richard Legro, one of the world’s leading experts in the treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome). She also works closely with a Senior lecturer Tonko Mardesic, the owner of Pronatal Sanatorium in Prague. Dr. Dmitrovic’s areas of interest are color Doppler and three-dimensional / four-dimensional ultrasound, assisted reproduction and reproductive endocrinology with a special emphasis on polycystic ovary syndrome and the problems related to hormonal imbalance in women. She received numerous awards among which the International Fellow Award, which she was awarded by the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) and The International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO). Award of Croatian Academy of Medical Sciences, “Borislav Nakic” was awarded to her for the best paper published in the year 2000 for scientists younger than 35 years. She also won the Fulbright scholarship, FIRCA – Fogarty International Research Collaboration Award – the U.S. agency, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) award to her for a joint project of the U.S. and foreign scientists, and Scientific and educational scholarship for foreign nationals who participate in projects in Republic of Slovenia – Ad Futura, Scientific and Educational Foundation of the Republic of Slovenia. Dr. Romana Dmitrovic is a lecturer and research associate at the Medical School at the University of Zagreb, Jefferson Ultrasound Research and Education Institute (JUREI), and at the first category postgraduate course, “Doppler ultrasound diagnosis of vascular diseases.” As a teacher she participates in national and international professional meetings. He started his residency in cardiology in 2012, and passed the specialist exam in October 2017, and since then he has been working at the Clinic for Cardiovascular Diseases in a university hospital as a specialist cardiologist. Professor Mario Kopljar graduated from the University of Zagreb School of Medicine in 1997. He passed the specialist exam in general surgery in 2007, and the subscpecialist exam in abdominal (digestive) surgery in 2010. He received his master's degree in 2003, and his PhD in 2009. He was elected a senior research associate in 2013. Since 2017, he holds the scientific-teaching title of assistant professor at the University in Osijek School of Medicine. Since 2018 he has been recognized as a specialist in oncological surgery. Professor Kopljar ​​studied at several international institutions (UKC Ljubljana and KC Maribor; Graz and Salzburg; St. Marks Hospital in London; Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York; Ichilov Hospital Tel Aviv, Israel). Dr. Košec graduated from the University of Zagreb School of Medicine in 2010 with an average grade of 4.93 (out of 5). During his studies he was a demonstrator in the courses Physiology and Immunology, Pathophysiology and Clinical Propaedeutics. He was awarded the Certificate of Excellence in Pathophysiology, the Dean's Award for the best fourth-year student, and the Rector's Award for the best scientific work "Significance of clinical status of the head and neck in the indication, scope and outcome of surgical treatment of squamous cell carcinoma of the scalp and neck." He was chosen as one of the best students in Croatia and was awarded a scholarship from the University of Zagreb, a scholarship from the City of Zagreb for postgraduate studies, and a Top Scholarship under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Croatia. He passed the specialist exam in 2018. He completed a professional postgraduate study in otorhinolaryngology, and then a PhD study at the University of Zagreb School of Medicine in November 2017 with his dissertation "Prognostic value of tissue proteomic profile in stages I and II of malignant melanoma of the scalp and neck". He was elected a research associate at the University of Zagreb School of Medicine in May 2018, and a postdoctoral fellow / senior assistant at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology in his university hospital in May 2019. She was born on July 24, 1983 in Otočac, and after completing her high scool education (VII. Gymnasium in Zagreb) in 2001 she started studying at the University of Zagreb School of Medicine. During her studies, she was a demonstrator at the Department of Pathology. She graduated in 2007, and after a mandatory internship, in 2008 she passed the state exam for physicians. From 2008 to 2015 she worked as a research fellow on the project of the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports "Research of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease as a part of the metabolic syndrome", under leadership of professor Marko Duvnjak. From 2010 to 2015, she was working for the University of Zagreb School of Medicine as a resident in internal medicine. She received her PhD title in 2015, and in 2018 she became a subspecialist pulmologist, and also the head of the Diagnostic and Therapeutic Department of Interventional Pulmonology, Department of Clinical Immunology, Pulmonology and Rheumatology, University Hospital "Sestre milosrdnice" in Zagreb. Since 2015, she has been a research fellow - senior assistant at the Department of Internal Medicine, and an assistant professor since 2020. Initially, her narrower interest was hepatology and gastroenterology, and later pulmonology. Lidija Dežmalj Grbelja was born in Zadar in 1973. In 1991 she started studying medicine at the University of Rijeka School of Medicine, where she graduated in 1997. In 2005 she passed the specialist exam in neurology. Since then, she has been working in the field of neuroimmunology, and in 2019 she became a subspecialist in neuroimmunology. Dr. Kust graduated from the University of Zagreb School of Medicine, where he also received his PhD in 2016 with a thesis "Prognostic significance of cytokeratin-20 gene expression in peripheral blood cells of patients with colroectal cancer". In 2018, he became the first University master of oncology and radiotherapy in Croatia, defending a thesis entitled "Hypothyroidism as a predictive factor of a better treatment response to sunitinib therapy". Dr. Lamot is a specialist in pediatrics and a subspecialist in pediatric rheumatology. Since 2008 he is a research fellow at the Department of Pediatrics of the University of Zagreb School of Medicine, and a postdoctoral fellow since 2014. In addition to lecturing in the college course Fundamentals of medical skills and the module Diseases of the Musculoskeletal System and Clinical Judgement, he is a mentor for postgraduate students and was the leader of the postgraduate course of the first category. Additionally, he is engaded in translational research in the field of pediatric rheumatology and is involved in several domestic and international projects.
