Dejan Bakula, MD, was born in Šibenik in 1989, where he completed primary school and the general gymnasium Antun Vrančić. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in Rijeka in 2014, completing his internship at the Sisters of Mercy University Hospital in 2015. He successfully completed his specialist training in gastroenterology in May 2021. Currently, he is a third-year doctoral student in the postgraduate doctoral program Biomedicine and Health.

He is currently employed at the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Sisters of Mercy University Hospital in Zagreb. His clinical focus includes patients with inflammatory bowel diseases, malabsorption syndrome, and clinical nutrition. He is involved in diagnostic and therapeutic gastrointestinal endoscopy of the upper and lower digestive tract, as well as abdominal ultrasound.

He is a member of the European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN), the European Pancreatic Club (EPC), the Croatian Medical Association, and the Croatian Gastroenterological Society.

He is the author and co-author of several original scientific papers and congress abstracts.
